You Have To Make A Choice
March 26, 2017

We need to make a choice concerning what we are going to focus on in this life.
There are many things pulling our attention in different areas but we need to make a conscious decision to focus on Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:1    Psalm 61:2    2 Timothy 2:15    Revelation 3:15-17    Matthew 25:1-6

2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Psalm 61:2

2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

2 Timothy 2:15

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth.

Revelation 3:15-17

15 I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!

16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

17 For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.

Matthew 25:1-6

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

I can't change the circumstances or people around me but I can trust in the Lord.

  • Remember Jesus is coming back again and we need to make sure that we are looking for Him.
  • When the circumstances of life start to overwhelm me I need to turn my focus to Jesus, the Rock of my Salvation and my Refuge.
  • When we live in light of Jesus' return, it influences our thoughts and behavior.

We need to pray for passion for Jesus and for His return.

  1. We need more and more passion until it changes the way I walk, talk, look, and engage with others.
  2. What are we living for? We need to live in light of the fact that we will live again.
  3. The church is too comfortable. Lukewarm. It would be better if we were hot or cold because then God could work with us.
  4. Christians ought to be the most excited people on earth because we know that no matter what's happening in this life Jesus is coming back again soon.

We need to be so in love with Jesus that nothing and no one on earth means more than Him.

  1. We need to make sure that we take out time to spend time with Jesus and to commune with Him.
  2. We can talk with God every single day.
  3. Who's list of "to do's" are we focused on everyday? Our list or God's list?
  4. Everyday we need to ask God, "What do You want to get done today?"

Remember the story of the 10 virgins ... 5 were ready, 5 were not.

  1. We need to make sure we are the ones who are ready.
  2. We need to make sure that we are ready for Jesus' return.
  3. We are responsible for making sure we are ready.
  4. We can't depend on someone else to get us ready.

What occupies our mind most often?

  1. If what we are experiencing or going through is controlling us we have a problem.
  2. Be careful not to get so caught up in doing things for God that we forget to love Him and commune with Him.
  3. Shake yourself and make sure you are on track.

Be careful not to let this short time, this life, distract you from eternity.

  1. Make sure everything being done in this life is in light of eternity.
  2. You cannot do anything for God unless you love Him with all of your heart, soul and mind.
  3. You cannot love people without the love of God.
