Understanding The Royal Priesthood (2)

May 21, 2017

God calls us together to offer sacrifices of praise.
We should have been praising God all week but when we gather together corporately we lift up one voice together

1 Peter 2:9-12

1 Peter 2:9-12

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

12 Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.

We come together to bless God.

  • Everyday we make choices that will impact our eternity.
  • We need to live in light of this.

Two things are emphasized here: We are Priests unto God and Ambassadors of God to the World

  1. Everything that we do should be centered around those two positions that we hold.
  2. These positions have been given to us, it's not by our choice.
  3. Once we are saved and inherit these positions everything in our life should change.

We should not be bogged down and worried about the things in this life.

  1. Never identify yourself by your condition or circumstance.
  2. We are blessed by God and no one can curse what God has blessed.
  3. When you realize you are blessed and a new creation, generational curses no longer influence you.

We need to see ourselves as God sees us.

  1. As children, as a priesthood and as His ambassadors who are equipped for good works that glorify Him.
  2. As priests and ambassadors we need to be concerned with eternity.
  3. Old people, young people, everybody needs to make their calling and election sure.
