Sermon Notes | March 12, 2017

No matter what happens in our life we know that God will work it out for our good.

Even the "bad things" that happen to us, God will use it for our good.

2 Peter 3:9-14

2 Peter 3:9-14

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Pilgrim's progress - The constant theme was that Christian was going to the Celestial city.

  • We need to focus on the promise that Jesus is coming back again and that we have a home in heaven. This is the foundation of my life and should be my central focus.
  • How much do we really love Jesus? If we love Him we will want to see Him. If we love Him we will look for His return.
  • When you know that you have a home with Jesus in heaven you don't fear death.
  • Whether we live or die, we win!

Considering this we need to keep ourselves pure.

  1. Backsliding has different levels. The church is back sliding right now which is causing us to be assimilated into the world and lose focus of our destiny/ destination. Our back sliding has caused us not to be excited about and looking forward to Jesus' return.
  2. As the church, the bride of Christ, we need to make sure that we are pure and waiting for/prepared for His return. Remember the parable of the virgins, 5 were ready and 5 were not. They were all pure but not all were ready.
  3. Look at the signs around us and take note of the times. Remember Jesus' return is going to come like a thief in the night- quick, without notification, suddenly.
